South Project’s Young Moms Work and Wellness Bridge is a program designed for young moms who feel ready to explore what knowledge, stability, and support looks like—all without the pressure.
You may feel interested in joining such a program, but aren’t sure whether it’s right for you. Maybe you want a deeper perspective into what this program looks like. Ideally, you may want to hear from a young mom who’s a member of the program so you know what to expect.
Thankfully, for this month’s post, we have just that. I’ve interviewed a current member of the Young Moms Work and Wellness Bridge program [name redacted for privacy], and asked her 10 questions regarding how the program has enhanced her well-being as a mom.
There’s no need to stop and wonder what this program is like—read on for yourself!
- How old were you when you became a mother, and how many children do you have?
I was 29 when I had my first (and currently only) child, a son.
- What stage are you at in life (still in school, young professional, looking to transition careers, etc.)?
I’m actually a young professional trying to get back into school!
- How did you discover South Project in general? How did you learn about the Young Moms Work & Wellness Bridge program (WWBP)?
I discovered South Project and later the WWBP through the first event that was posted on Instagram.
- What is the main reason you desire guidance, structure, and encouragement at this time in life?
The main reason I desire the support of the WWBP is because of my goal of being able to balance being a mother without losing myself. I want to still chase my dreams so that way I won’t feel tempted in the future to blame my child and my role as a mom on why I haven’t succeeded in the areas I’ve wanted to succeed in.
- What attracted you to the program and made you ultimately decide to go through with it? Was it an easy decision or something you deliberated on? If you hesitated, what made you hesitate?
It was an easy decision for me, really. There aren’t a lot of programs like this one out there.
- On South Project’s website, this program is listed for young moms who “feel ready to take the next step toward education, training, or employment, even if [they’re] unsure where to start.” Which one of those aspects feels most applicable to you? Did you pursue it out of a desire for further education, employment, or something else?
All of these feel applicable to me. I really want to make sure I’m constantly progressing in life and that I don’t become stuck.
- What’s been the biggest plus in your life as a result of joining WWBP?
The biggest plus since joining the WWBP has been learning how to think through things as a mother and not shove matters on the back burner and wait until my body forces me to face my problems.
- If South Project could improve upon or change the program in some way, what changes would you suggest?
I appreciate exercise, so I think some sort of exercise segment or emphasis on exercise would be very beneficial.
- What’s been your favorite part of the program so far?
I’ve enjoyed the therapy and money management tips.
- The website also says that the WWBP is for young moms who are “open to learning new skills, setting goals, and checking in with a mentor.” Are there any new skills you’ve picked up yet or goals you’ve created for yourself as a result of being a part of the WWBP?
One of my largest goals is preparing to go to law school!
